Paulo F. Pires is an Associate Professor at the Institute of Computing at Fluminense Federal University (UFF), Brazil. He holds a Ph.D. in Systems Engineering and Computing (UFRJ, Brazil, 2002). His main research interests are in the intersection of Software Engineering and Distributed Systems. In the last years his current research efforts focus on applying Software Engineering techniques in the context of system development for the Internet of Things (IoT). Dr. Pires has co-authored two books in the IoT theme: Middleware Solutions for the Internet of Things (Springer, 2013) and Resource Management for Internet of Things (Springer, 2017). He has coordinated several cooperative industryuniversity projects as well as research projects in those areas, with funding from industry and several International and Brazilian government agencies. He has published over 150 refereed international renowned journal articles, conference papers and book chapters and he has five Patents registered in the USPTO. Dr. Pires has served in program committees of several international conferences. He is currently a member of IEEE TC on Cybermatics and Associate Editor of the IEEE Open Journal of the Communications Society.
